Michelin Guide Great Britain 2018 stars announcement
The new starred restaurants entering the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2018 are to be revealed on 2 October.

The awards will be announced from 11.30am at a live event at The Brewery in east London attended by chefs and Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin Guides.

Last year's guide contained 18 new one-star restaurants, seven of which were in London, while The Raby Hunt in Darlington was the only new two-star site.

It has now been seven years since a new three-star restaurant was announced. Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck regained its triple rating last year after relocating to Australia for nine months, but the last brand new entrant to receive three stars was Alain Ducasse at The Dorchester in 2010.

The only other three-star restaurants in the UK are Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea and The Waterside Inn in Bray.

Sixteen restaurants also lost their stars in 2017, with many either closing or losing a big-name chef.

Last year was also the first time the awards have been announced at a live event. In 2015 Michelin was forced to tweet the new entrants after the list was apparently leaked by a bookshop ahead of its official release.

Michelin also awards Bib Gourmands, which are presented to restaurants serving three courses for under £28.

The Michelin Guide was first introduced in France in 1900. Inspectors act as anonymous customers and pay their own bills.
