Byron board member says he is "wrongly implicated" in Putney Bridge incident

The jogger arrested for appearing to push a women in front of a bus on Putney Bridge earlier this year claims to have been “wrongly implicated”.

Eric Bellquist, a partner at private equity firm Hutton Collins and who represents the business on the boards of Byron Hamburgers and Wagamama and was responsible for the company’s investment in Caffè Nero, was arrested by police yesterday (10 August) over the incident but has since been released pending further inquiries.

Bellquist “categorically denies” being involved in the incident, according to his solicitors Duncan Lewis.

“Eric Bellquist, who was arrested yesterday in relation to an assault that took place on #PutneyBridge has been wrongly implicated,” the law firm has written on Twitter.

“He categorically denies being the individual concerned & has irrefutable proof that he was in the US at the time of the incident. Consequently, we expect a swift resolution to this wholly untrue allegation.”

Police released CCTV footage from May this year that showed a 33-year-old female pedestrian apparently being pushed into the path of a bus by a male jogger as she walked across Putney Bridge, with the bus having to swerve to avoid hitting her.
