Michel and Alain Roux to launch new restaurant

Michel Roux Sr and his son Alain Roux are to launch their first restaurant in a residential development next year.

Roux at Skindles will be part of Taplow Riverside, an upmarket scheme with 139 homes near the village of Taplow in Buckinghamshire.

The restaurant will open in Autumn 2018 on the site of the former Skindles Hotel, just a few miles from the three-Michelin-starred Waterside Inn that Roux Sr founded in Bray in 1967.

It will offer a more informal setting than the Roux family’s other sites, with a ground floor dining room and ‘club-style lounge’ on the upper floor.

The day-to-day operations will be overseen by Alain, who also runs The Waterside Inn.

Roux Sr told The Telegraph that the idyllic location persuaded him to take on the new venture.

“It will be totally different to our other establishments,” says Roux Sr.

“It has the best situation on the river, will overlook a beautiful bridge and have a lovely terrace. Everything must be the best. A place can have an idyllic location but still lack soul – it needs to have the right vibe. The restaurant won’t just be for a special occasion but somewhere people will feel at ease.”

The Roux family’s restaurant portfolio also includes the two-Michelin-starred Le Gavroche in London, which is run by Roux Sr’s nephew Michel Roux Jr.
