MasterChef finalist closes Hole in the Wall restaurant
The chef reached the finals of the BBC cooking show in 2010 and went on to launch the restaurant in Little Wilbraham, Cambridgeshire in 2011.
But The Hole in the Wall closed its doors at the beginning of the month, hinting that the team were planning a new project.
A statement on the restaurant’s Facebook page said: “It's been six years since we opened the Hole in the Wall. In that time we've hosted 12 weddings, baked almost 3000 loaves of bread, and served at least 18,000 Sunday lunches.
“Without blowing our trumpet too loudly: we're fairly confident that we've been A Good Thing. But as the saying goes - even the very best of things must come to an end.
“The Hole in the Wall is now closed... but this will not be the last you see of us.
“We might not be cooking in Little Wilbraham any longer - but we'll be back. And we'll keep you posted. So in the meantime: watch this space...”
Rushmer told The Cambridge News that the restaurant had come to the end of its lease and he would be taking a break before planning a new venture.
The Hole in the Wall was voted one of the best restaurants in the UK by the Observer Food Monthly, and made the Sunday Times’ top 100 restaurants in the UK list this year.
