Solita group to open a taqueria in Manchester's Northern Quarter

The team behind Manchester’s Solita restaurant group is opening a taqueria in the city’s Northern Quarter next month.

El Taquero will be spread across the ground floor and basement of former pilsner hall pop-up Bouncing Czech and Montpellier’s restaurant on Back Tuner Street in the city.

It will serve tacos and quesadillas from corn tortillas handmade using an imported tortilla press from Mexico City. The drinks menu will feature a large selection of tequila, as well as tequila-based cocktails and Mexican beers.

The site is currently undergoing renovation and is set to re-open at the beginning of August.

El Taquero will be the fifth restaurant in Solita’s estate, all of which are based in the North West of England. The restaurant group, which is named after its location ‘south of Little Italy’, currently operates its US-style bar and grills in Manchester as well as in Didsbury, Prestwich and Preston, where it serves an extensive menu of ribs, wings, burgers and hot dogs.

“Tacos make a great lunch, snack or dinner and we are confident ours will be the best, serving a taco-starved Manchester  something it has never seen before,” say Simon Pogson and Franco Sotgiu, owners of the Solita group and El Taquero. “We’re keen to show people how a real taco should be served.”
