Mowgli Street Food to expand to Birmingham and Leeds
Indian street food restaurant brand Mowgli Street Food will open sites in Birmingham and Leeds this year after securing £3.45m in funding.

The North West-based restaurant group has received funding from private equity company Foresight Group, which will support the rollout of restaurants in Birmingham and Leeds. The company also intends to expand to other parts of the UK as a result of the deal.

Mogwli Street Food was founded by former barrister Nisha Katona in Liverpool in 2014 and currently operates two restaurants in its home city as well as a further one in Manchester’s Corn Exchange.

Its menu focuses on small street food items such as bhel puri, spiced omelette wrap and treacle tamarind fries as well as selection of larger curry dishes, including Agra ginger chicken, Goan fish and lamb.

Other dishes on its menu include the Bunny Chow (a chicken and potato curry served inside a bun) and its ‘office worker’ and ‘Indian school’ tiffin boxes, which the company describes as ‘food roulette’.

“This is a significant milestone for Mowgli Street Food, which will enable us to deliver on our ambitious plans to grow our business across the UK,” says Katona.

Audit and tax consulting firm RSM advised on the deal. “In a competitive sector, Mowgli Street Food is a genuinely exciting brand,” says Rob Donaldson, RSM’s head of corporate finance.
