Hong Kong's Michelin-starred Duddell's to open in London

The group behind two-Michelin-starred Hong Kong restaurant Duddell’s is to open its first London outpost of the brand.

JIA Group, which is run by restaurateur Yenn Wong, will launch Duddell’s London on the site of the historic St Thomas Church in London Bridge this autumn.

Daren Liew, former executive sous chef at the Hakkasan Group, will head up the kitchen, serving a modern take on authentic Cantonese dishes with ‘hand-crafted’ dim sum.

The restaurant will also feature a bar offering an ‘oriental’ twist on cocktails, and a mezzanine level overlooking the dining room.

Duddell’s, which bills itself as a ‘cultural destination', runs year-round art programmes in its Hong Kong sites.

The London restaurant will mark its launch with a pop-up art exhibition from Hong Kong-based artist Nadim Abbas from 20 June – 15 July. Work on the restaurant will begin once the exhibition closes.

It will be Duddell’s first opening outside Hong Kong since the brand launched in 2013.

“Duddell’s London is thrilled to be presenting our arts programme for the first time in the UK, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment towards global initiatives,” says Kylie Ying, co-host for the opening event.

JIA Group runs 11 restaurants in Hong Kong under the Duddell’s brand, including its eponymous two-Michelin-starred site in the Central district.
