Deliveroo Editions begins national roll-out in Brighton and Hove

Deliveroo has launched its first delivery-only 'dark kitchens' outside of London, in the suburbs of Brighton and Hove.

The Portslade and Hove site is the first of 30 Deliveroo Editions hubs planned to open in 10 UK cities by the end of 2017.

National chains Pho and Gourmet Burger Kitchen have joined the Brighton site alongside local sushi restaurant Moshimo, VIP Pizza, and renowned Indian restaurant Chilli Pickle - which is a regular on Restaurant Magazine’s National Restaurant Awards top 100 list.

Thai chain Thaikhun has also made its Brighton debut with the launch of its first delivery-only kitchen.

We used our unique technology to identify the cuisine gaps in Portslade and Hove, and worked with Brighton’s favourite restaurants to bring them to new customers outside the city centre,” says Deliveroo’s Rohan Pradhan.

The launch follows a trial version of the project, known as Roobox, which has been running in London since last year.

Each Editions kitchen ‘box’ is staffed by chefs hired by the restaurant brands and can be tailored to each operator.

Deliveroo, which was founded in London in 2013, is aiming to sign up 200 restaurant brands to its Editions kitchens across the country by the end of the year.

Though the company’s co-founder Will Shu has said he sees the service as the ‘future of food delivery’, the remote kitchens will not replace Deliveroo’s current delivery model altogether.
