Francesco Mazzei to open restaurant at Battersea Power Station

Italian chef Francesco Mazzei is to open his third restaurant with D&D London, at Battersea Power Station.

Fiume, named after the Italian word for river, will serve modern Italian food for lunch and dinner when it launches at the £9bn riverside project this summer.

It will be Mazzei’s third restaurant collaboration with D&D in the last two years. The chef re-launched swish Sartoria on Savile Row in 2015 and opened Radici in Islington just last month.

Mazzei will oversee Fiume as chef patron, but the kitchen will be run day-to-day by head chef Francesco Chiarelli.

The 120-cover site will feature an open kitchen with a wood-fired oven, bar counter dining for 15-covers and a 50-cover outdoor terrace in the development’s Circus West Village area.

“When I saw the plans for Circus West Village and Battersea Power Station as a whole, there was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be involved,” says Mazzei.

“It is a one-of-a-kind project that will attract people from all over the world and I cannot wait to feed them all!”

Fiume will launch as part of the first commercial phase of power station redevelopment. Also opening at the site are the Wright Brothers, Danish pizza group Mother, Australian-inspired Ben’s Canteen and Duckroad – a sister restaurant to Soho’s Ducksoup.

Battersea Power Station was built in the 1930’s but has stood empty since 1983. A consortium of Malaysian investors bought the site for £400m in 2012.
