Bistro Vadouvan Putney London open Michelin-trained chef French-Asian
Bistro Vadouvan, a new French-Asian-style restaurant, has launched in south London, co-owned by a chef with a Michelin-starred background.

The menu at the Putney Wharf riverside venue has been created by chef and co-patron Durga Misra, whose career has included working at fish restaurant One-O-One in Knightsbridge, followed by five years at the then-two-Michelin-starred Eric Chavot restaurant at the Capital Hotel.

Durga, who is originally from India, then went to La Petite Maison in Mayfair, and took his first head chef role at Kitchen by Joel Antunès. Most recently he headed up Brasserie Chavot in Mayfair.

Misra is co-patron with Uttam Tripathy, whose began his career at the Radisson hotel group in India, before coming to the UK. Since 2011, Tripathy has been patron and maitre d’ at the Potli restaurant in Hammersmith.

The restaurant’s dishes have been inspired by traditional French flavours, with a Middle-Eastern, and Asian-spiced twist. The aim is to create familiar French-style food in a healthier, more balanced way.

This will include spiced bouillabaisse Provencal; middle eastern beef tartare with smoked aubergine; seabass with celeriac, cauliflower and ras el hanout; duck leg Asiatique “Pot au Pho“; and house specialty, Vadouvan sausage and mash.

Desserts will be along the lines of ‘luxurious chocolate’ and bitter orange, and ‘exotic cheesecake with passionfruit cremeux.

Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday to Saturday, it will also serve Sunday brunch.

Average spend is expected to be around £35 per person.

Diners can choose from banquettes in the main dining area, or seats at the communal dining table, the kitchen bar, a 16-seat semi-private balcony, or on the outside terrace.
