Le Gavroche celebrates 50th birthday with new menu

Le Gavroche is celebrating its 50th year in business with the launch of a new menu.

The two-Michelin-starred Mayfair restaurant was opened by brothers Albert and Michel Roux in 1967 and has become a stalwart of the London dining scene.

Chefs including Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White, Phil Howard and Marcus Wareing have all earned their stripes in the kitchen, which is now run up by Albert’s son, Michel Roux Jr.

In honour of its anniversary, the restaurant will be serving a special five-course seasonal menu featuring Le Gavroche classics from the last 50 years. Available until December, the menu can be booked in advanced for 4-6 people at £90 a head.

The 1967th diner to book this year will also receive a special gift from Michel on their visit to the restaurant.

“The Roux dynasty is something to be proud of but we certainly wouldn’t be in this position without the team’s hard work,” said Michel Roux Jr.

“My team, both old and new, are like family to me, from the kitchen and front-of-house to the reservations team and Head Office – this is their achievement too and I will be eternally grateful.

“As for what’s next, who knows? 50 years is an astounding achievement. Time to sit back, and reflect on our incredible history.”

Le Gavroche was awarded three-Michelin-stars in 1982 but lost its third star in 1993. It has since retained its two-star rating for 14 years.

Earlier this year the it became the latest Michelin-starred restaurant to reduce its opening hours to ease the pressure on staff.
