Henry Harris overseeing launch of Bower House

Former Racine chef Henry Harris is overseeing the launch of a new British restaurant with rooms opening in the Cotswolds next month.

Bower House will feature a 75-cover restaurant headed up by Darren Brown, former development chef at The Lucky Onion, when it launches in Shipston on Stour in April.

Brown, who was also head chef at West Stoke House in West Sussex when it won a Michelin star in 2010, will cook a menu described as ‘modern British with a French accent’ using local produce.

Five bedrooms will open for overnight stays in the Georgian town house above the restaurant in mid-May, with Edward Cambridge, formerly of Soho Farmhouse, as general manager.

The opening marks a return to the restaurant scene for Harris, who ran French restaurant Racine in Knighstbridge for 13 years until he sold up and resigned as director in 2015.

He had planned to return to the stove as chef-patron of Buckinghamshire bar and restaurant The Dog & Badger last year, but cut ties with the owners before its launch citing ‘artistic differences’.

Bower House will open on 7 April.
