The company, which owns the Harvester and All Bar One chains, has launched the pilot venue of its fast-casual Son of Steak brand in Nottingham this week.
The concept promises to take the ‘fuss’ out of steak, with a simple menu featuring more unusual cuts such as picanha and lomito (both from the rump) alongside an 8oz sirloin (£11.60) and 8oz flat iron steak (£7.20).
There is also a choice of bao filled with steak, chicken or mushroom and crispy vegetables (up to £8.60), four burgers, and a maple-glazed half chicken (£7.30)
The restaurant is designed for speedy service with mojito’s on tap, removing the need to wait at a busy bar.
Mitchells & Butlers will consider guest feedback on the trial concept before considering rolling it out to further sites.
“[Son of Steak] is all about the simplicity - expert cooking, and good food without the fuss,” says Dennis Deare, divisional director for Mitchells & Butlers.
“As this is a pilot site we’ll take the learnings, both operationally and from guest feedback over the next few weeks and months, before we make any decision about the possible future opportunities and opening plans.”
