Launching on 23 March, Rick Stein Barnes will serve a seafood-heavy menu featuring the chef’s classic dishes such as dover sole a la meunière, alongside meat, game and vegetarian options.
New dishes include a rabbit stew with caramelised onions, red wine, cinnamon and currants inspired by Stein’s travels to Greece; and duck confit with braised red cabbage and sautéed potatoes.
There will also be a Seafood Bar offering fresh oysters, langoustines and sashimi, as well as a set lunch menu.
Rick Stein Barnes occupies the former site of The Depot restaurant overlooking the Thames, which Stein bought late last year.
Originally constructed in 1901, the building once served as a coach house and steam engine shed for Barnes council depot.
Stein's ex-wife and business partner Jill Stein has refurbished the site to give the restaurant a subtle ‘industrial’ feel, with banquette seating and hanging greenery. It also features a huge conservatory with views over the river, as well as outside seating around an olive tree for the warmer weather,
“Up until a couple of years ago I didn’t think I would open a restaurant in London, but when I was shown The Depot it struck me how perfect a place it was: right on the river and close to London whilst also being part of a real village community,” says Stein.
The chef opened The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, Cornwall back in 1975.
The business has since expanded to 10 restaurants, a pub, fish and chip shop and gin bar.
