Duck & Waffle to launch sister restaurant

The team behind Duck & Waffle have finally confirmed details of their long-awaited second London restaurant.

BigHospitality reported last March that the group had acquired a site at the St James’s Market development for the opening this spring.

The new restaurant, Duck & Waffle Local, will be a fast casual offshoot of its parent brand, serving a quicker and ‘more accessible’ menu.

Time-pressed guests will be able to order at a counter before being shown to a table, or use a takeaway service to eat on the go.

New menus

While the original Duck & Waffle in Bishopsgate is open 24 hours, the new restaurant will open from early morning to late night and offer both breakfast and all-day menus.

Duck & Waffle’s chef director Dan Doherty has created new dishes centred on the restaurant’s namesake bird, including a duck burger with crispy duck leg; and a duck jam doughnut.

The 120-cover site will also feature a farmhouse-style design with a corrugated metal ceiling, open kitchen and farm machinery hanging overhead.

“Duck & Waffle has been a hit from the start. We’ve served over one million guests and almost half a million dishes since opening in July 2012,” says Shimon Bokovza, founder and managing partner at Duck & Waffle.

“We are now harnessing the energy of the brand and bringing it to the street in a more casual atmosphere.”

The original Duck & Waffle opened on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower in Bishopsgate in 2012. It is operated by Orange Brands Management, which also oversees London’s Sushisamba restaurant.
