Yosma team to open Hovarda Turkish restaurant

The team behind Marylebone’s Yosma are to open a second Turkish-inspired restaurant in London later this year.

Hovarda will focus on Greek and Turkish raw seafood and grilled dishes when it launches in Chinatown this summer.

It is the second London opening from the Good Food Society restaurant group and Hus Vedat, former executive chef at Jamie Oliver’s Barbecoa, who opened Yosma in 2016.

The team has secured a 5,670 sq ft site on Rupert Street for the restaurant, which will be designed by the Barcelona-based Lazaro Rosa Violan studio.

Hovarda is part of over 14,000 sq ft of new restaurant openings set for the Chinatown area, including XU, the upcoming Taiwanese restaurant from the Bao team, and Hong Kong street food brand Bubblewrap.

Vedet, who has Turkish origins, previously worked at Caxton Grill at the St Ermin’s hotel before becoming executive chef at Yosma.

Good Food Society was created by former Lehman Brothers vice-president Sanjay Nandi and Turkish restaurateur Levent Büyükugur in 2013.

The company also runs Italian restaurant Ristorante Frescobaldi London in Mayfair, which it opened in partnership with the Frescobaldi family in 2014.
