The all-day, Monday-to-Friday Refinery CityPoint and The Refinery New Street Square sites will be the latest in Drake & Morgan’s plans to roll out The Refinery brand, following its acquisition of the wine bar business last summer.
Set to open on 27 February, the CityPoint site, near London’s Moorgate, will have 166 covers across 4,700 sq ft, and also feature a private dining room and lounge area.
The 3,400 sq ft New Street Square will have 100 covers on the ground floor, plus a semi-private 40-cover mezzanine. It is expected to open in late March.
Both venues have been designed by Fusion, and will have the usual large ‘statement’ bar as well as seating from dining tables to banquettes and lounge spaces. Both will serve the group's usual menu of British-European brasserie-and-cocktail-bar style menus.
The Refinery brand currently has two sites in London (Regent’s Place and Bankside), plus one apiece in Edinburgh and Manchester.
As previously announced, Drake & Morgan is also set to open four other sites this year; three in London (at West India Quay, Cannon Green, and Principal Place); plus one in Manchester’s St Peter Square.
As well as The Refinery brand, the group runs nine other venues – with names such as The Happenstance, The Folly, The Fable, The Drift, and The Otherist – including The Commission at London Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 4. It also has Drake & Morgan at King’s Cross.
Founded in South London in 2008, the group takes it name from adventurers Sir Francis Drake and Captain Henry Morgan.
It acquired the then-11-strong Corney & Barrow Wine Bar group in July 2016, for an undisclosed sum, and has since continued in its ambition to expand to at least 25 sites by the end of 2017.
