Michael O’Hare to move flagship restaurant
Currently on the top floor of upmarket department store Flannels, O’Hare’s flagship will move to a larger space within the same building in June.
The 6,000 sq ft ground floor site is twice the size of the original, allowing the chef to have a separate bar and a much larger reception area. The dining room will still be 40 covers but the space between the tables will increase significantly. There will be a chef’s table adjacent to the kitchen providing a further eight covers. Shortly before the restaurant moves O’Hare and his team are bringing The Man Behind The Curtain to Hong Kong for a week long residency at the Mandarin Oriental hotel.
O’Hare recently launched a ‘space age’ Asian restaurant in Manchester backed by Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville’s GG Hospitality vehicle. The kitchen at The Rabbit In The Moon – named after the the moon rabbit of Asian folklore – is headed by 21-year-old Luke Cockerill, who has worked for O’Hare since he was 17. The menu – devised by Cockerill with only limited input from his mentor – is a similar format to The Man Behind The Curtain, a succession of small, flamboyantly-presented dishes.
O’Hare will launch two more restaurants towards the end of 2017. The Man Who Fell to Earth will be helmed by current The Man Behind The Curtain head chef Adam Rasburn and is described as a homage to the grand dining rooms of Paris. It will have a more conventionally structured à la carte menu but the food style will be eclectic. The second, Are Friends Electric, named after the well-known Gary Newman song, will be an affordable ‘kitchen table’ style restaurant with an open kitchen.
