Malmaison Hotel du Vin to open in York
Work on the historic building is now set to begin later this year, and will also create a branch of the group’s usual Chez Mal Bar and Brasserie operation.
The hotel will also house the brand’s Work + Play meeting and events concept, which seeks to mix classic style with private meeting pods, and business-ready technology systems.
The news comes soon after the group announced the acquisition of four new properties in the UK, and forms part of its continued roll-out of its multi-million pound investment programme into its existing 15-strong portfolio.
In January last year, it gained planning approval for a Stratford-upon-Avon site, and in February announced a £5m refurbishment plan for its Scotland properties. Similarly, in April and May 2016 respectively, it confirmed that Cheltenham’s Montpellier Chapter and Brighton’s Hotel Seattle would come under the Malmaison umbrella.
Commenting on the York news, Paul Roberts, chief executive officer at Malmaison Hotel du Vin, said: “We have long been fans of York, where Hotel du Vin continues to be a favourite for both locals and visitors. The vibrancy of the City means that it is also a perfect location for the Malmaison brand.”
The group currently comprises 15 properties, in Aberdeen, Belfast, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, Reading, Leeds, Brighton, and Cheltenham.
In 2015 it was sold by KSL Capital Partners to Frasers Hospitality UK Holdings for £363.4m.
