Urban Leisure Group to open 70s-inspired bar Bobby Fitzpatrick

Urban Leisure Group, operator of London bars Coin Laundry and Alice House, is to open a 70s-inspired bar in West Hampstead this week.

The bar - Bobby Fitzpatrick - named after a fictional character whose 'penchant for rum and passion for gambling is matched only by his love of Formica and brown shag pile carpet' is opening on the former site of pizza restaurant La Brocca on West End Lane.

The 'unapologetically retro' venue will be divided into three rooms - the kitchen, the lounge and the living room with decor fully inspired by the 70s and featuring original wallpaper, furniture and lighting, autographed photographs of Kate Bush, Leo Sayer and Olivia Newton John and other 70s memorabilia.

Its food and drink offering will also have a retro feel with the drinks menu based around rum-based cocktails listed in Bobby's Rum Diaries, such as spiced rum concoction Alison Mahoney (named after Fitzpatrick's prom date) and Sanford University with vodka and cherry cola reduction and beers and shooters.

The food menu will be 'fun and relaxed' and feature deep crust American pizzas, with toppings to include chicken tikka and lamb doner; Bobby’s signature hamburger with a Red Leicester middle and deep fried pickles, and chicken nuggets with dunking sauces. The dessert menu will include mini doughnuts and banana pie.

Bobby Fitzpatrick is the ninth bar from ULG, the company headed up by founder and director Hezi Yechiel.

He said: "“When the site for Bobby came up, we knew it was a great opportunity to bring a fun new concept right to the heart of West Hampstead. We know the area well as we have two more venues there - Alice House West Hampstead and The Gallery. Each of our venues has a unique personality and bespoke design. Bobby, with its distinctive and playful 70s vibe is a great addition to our portfolio.”
