The street food specialist, which aims to create ‘great-tasting food that just happens to be vegan’, is to begin an open-ended residency at the Pamela bar in Haggerston on 17 January.
It is the brainchild of Meriel Armitage, who left her job in advertising after becoming frustrated at the lack of creative vegan food in London.
“Our food is all about flavour which packs a punch, but with a sprinkling of 80’s kitsch to sweeten the blow,” said Armitage.
“2017 is going to be massive for vegan food, and we’re thrilled to be teaming up with Pamela, who’ve proven themselves to be trailblazers to champion a 100 per cent vegan menu.”
Dishes offer a twist on traditional meaty Mexican classics, including BBQ Pulled Jackfruit Tacos; Jalepeno Poppers stuffed with Chipotle Cashew ‘Cheese’; and Sikil Pak Hurache - a crispy Masa Pancake topped with Pumkpin Seeds Puree and Jackfruit Tinga.
Growing trend
The number of vegans in the UK has more than tripled to over 500,000 in the last ten years, according to The Vegan Society.
While chains including Zizzi, Pret A Manger and EAT have introduced new dishes without animal products in the past year, restaurants have been urged to do more to cater to the growing number of vegan diners.
Club Mexicana said it wanted to 'challenge the preconception that vegan food is all chickpeas and chia seeds'.
