Chef Daniel Boulud to make personal appearance at Harrods pop-up

New-York-based, two-Michelin-starred French chef Daniel Boulud has confirmed he is to make a personal appearance in the kitchen at his first ever Bar Boulud pop-up at Harrods department store this month.

Bar Boulud, the chef’s London site, usually found at the 181-bedroom luxury Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel, has moved to a pop-up in the Harrods Food Hall until 29 January, pending the hotel’s renovation of the restaurant’s usual space.

Boulud has confirmed that he will be joining executive chef Thomas Piat at the pop-up on 18 and 19 January, cooking for all guests. The pop-up menu aims to stay true to the restaurant’s usual fare, and will includes Dover sole, moules à la crème, and grilled burgers, plus desserts such as freshly-baked madeleines and macarons.

The pop-up also features a wide French wine list, and cocktails such as White Cosmopolitans and Venezuelan Old Fashioneds.

To celebrate the pop-up and the chef’s visit, Harrods has created a shop-and-dine package between the department store and the hotel, priced at £1,100.

This will include accommodation in a suite plus breakfast, a £50 Harrods lunch gift certificate for the pop-up,  a signed ‘My Best’ cookbook by Boulud, a personalised Harrods coffee blend, a Food Hall gift, private stylist consultation, ‘Hidden Gems’ tour, and collection and in-suite delivery of bags by Mandarin Oriental porters.

Boulud is best known for his restaurants in New York, especially the two-Michelin-starred (previously three-starred) eponymous site, Daniel, and the New York 2008 opening of the first of several Bar Bouluds.

He has also opened a range of sites in other global cities, including db Bistro Moderne at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, the dbar Lounge at the Four Seasons Hotel Toronto, Bar Boulud Boston in the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Boston, and Maison Boulud à Pekin, in Beijing, China in 2008.

Bar Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park first opened in 2010.

The new pop-up was first revealed as details of the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park’s refurbishment came to light late last year and earlier this month.

Expected to finish by spring 2018, the multi-million pound renovation will be in two phases, and include the Knightsbridge façade, lobby entrance, spa, bedrooms and bathrooms, and ‘soft’ renovation of the hotel’s restaurants and bars – including Bar Boulud, the Rosebery Lounge, and the two-Michelin-starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal.
