Steak restaurant Flat Iron was a double winner at this week's Restaurant Magazine R200 Awards, taking home gongs for Most Effective Design and Best Value operator. Franco Manca, Coppa Club and the much talked about Sexy Fish also took home prizes.
Autumn Statement
This week's Autumn Statement received a mixed response from the hospitality industry after the Chancellor confirmed a cut to business rates in rural areas, but failed to reduce tourism VAT. The British Hospitality Association (BHA) said the budget had been another 'missed opportunity' for the Government to support the sector.
Sharing economy shake-up
London hotel Bermondsey Square is taking on Airbnb by teaming up with local apartment owners to offer guests self-service accommodation with access to hotel services. A spokesperson said the plan offered a 'safe' environment for guests worried about the risks of Airbnb.
All change at Whatley Manor
Niall Keating has replaced Martin Burge as executive chef at the two michelin-starred Whatley Manor hotel in the Cotswolds. Keating, who joins from Restaurant Kong Hans Kaelder in Copenhagen, will introduce new menus from January 2017.
Boxpark team up
Restaurants at the newly-opened Boxpark Croydon have signed up to Deliveroo to offer home-delivery of their dishes. The venue - which is home to 30 independent food traders - said the partnership would help outlets increase turnover.
