Gisborough Hall to become independent from Macdonald Hotels Group
Four-star, 71-bedroom, two-AA Rosette Gisborough Hall Hotel in North Yorkshire is to become a fully-independent family-run hotel from April 2017, following its announcement of a multi-million pound investment.

The 19th-century property is currently a Macdonald Associate hotel, and has been since its opening as a hotel in 2002.

Lord Gisborough and family are set to take full commercial control of the hotel, supported by a newly-appointed board of directors.

Current Gisborough Hall general manager Kim Yardley ‒ who has been at the hotel since its opening ‒ will remain with the business, as will the 100-plus current staff.

Nick Holmes, formerly of the five-star Rockliffe Hall near Darlington, has joined as non-executive director to help the transition.

He said: “This is a truly exciting time for Gisborough Hall. As we approach our 15th anniversary next year, the time is right for us to ‘go it alone’. It allows us to invest and develop as we see appropriate for both the local community and also to encourage visitors to the region.”

Lord Gisborough said: “Being part of the Macdonald Hotel Group has been a fantastic experience. They have provided us with the opportunity to grow and, with their leadership, we have been able to really put the hotel on the map, for this we are extremely grateful and we wish them all the best.”

A Macdonald Hotels Group spokesperson added: “We have very much enjoyed our association with Gisborough Hall Hotel and we wish the owners and staff every success in the future.”

Gisborough Hall was originally the family home of the Chaloner family, and dates back to 1857.

As well as the two-AA Rosette restaurant, the hotel also offers a spa, the ‘G’ Bar and Bistro, plus a ballroom, conservatory, events spaces, and a traditional drawing room.

The Macdonald Hotels Group currently operates a portfolio of over 40 hotels across the country, with a focus on individuality and locally-sourced food.
