The Chop and Chip Co to open permanent site in Camden Market

Former street food vendor The Chop and Chip Co is to open its first permanent site, in London’s Camden Market, on 21 November.

Founded by friends Marcus Niven and Fergus Smith in an Airstream trailer in 2013, the group’s menu offers two main choices: The Flock (two lamb chops) and The Porky (one large pork chop) – or the Spiced Halloumi or BBQ Pulled Jackfruit buns for vegetarians and vegans.

There is then a choice of dry seasonings increasing in spice ‒ from the mild lemon and herb, to the classic BBQ, Bit of A Kick, Lip Tingler, or Screamer ‒ which is rubbed into the meat after grilling to increase flavour.

Other options include ‘The Buns’, with pulled beef or pork or halloumi.

Sides include Chicken Wings, Sweet Potato, Spicy Curly Fries and Thick Cut, Coronation or Beetroot Slaw, Gravy, and Halloumi Fries.

The site will also retail chops and seasoning for cooking at home.

The group originally opened in a renovated 1972 Californian Airstream trailer (named ‘Big Bertha’), which even after the permanent site opens will still be used at various outdoor events across the country.

Co-founder Smith said: “Bertha will always have an influence in everything we do and you will always see hints of her wherever we go. In Camden, the design will replicate the metallic finish seen on the van, although we will also be bringing lots of new elements into the market too.”
