Whitbread to open third Bar + Block Steakhouse
The steak-focused all-day casual dining restaurant is an ‘evolved and contemporary’ version of its Beefeater brand but aimed at a younger demographic.
The first site opened in Birmingham’s Waterloo Street in March 2016 and its second flagship venue is to open at London’s King’s Cross this month.
The 4,500 square-foot, 177-cover site in Fareham will be an informal all-day dining venue serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with an emphasis on high quality steaks at affordable prices, all hand-cut to order. The venue will also offer a 24-cover external seating area for outdoor drinking and dining.
The ‘Butcher’s Block’ will feature a range of rotating steak specials. Bar + Block will also offer an extensive drinks list, with a focus on craft beers from BrewDog and Meantime, innovative cocktails and a specially curated wine list.
The venue, developed by Harrison Design, includes a central feature bar with copper detailing, a large open kitchen, branded mosaic signage at the entrance and a mix of upright seating and leather booths.
Exposed brick walls will showcase a number of contemporary artwork pieces including their signature neon cow and preserved moss ‘hello’ sign, as well as wall calligraphy detailing the Bar + Block brand story.
David Murdin, chief operating officer of brand developments for Whitbread Restaurants, said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing Bar + Block Steakhouse to Whiteley. This is an exciting time of growth for the Bar + Block brand, with our flagship site opening in London this November.”
Neil Carter, centre manager for Whiteley, said: “Whiteley continues to be recognised as the place to come for great dining and I am delighted that Bar + Block Steakhouse will add to our extensive restaurant line up.”
