Sethi family to launch first Deliveroo-only restaurant

The siblings behind Michelin-starred Indian restaurant Gymkhana are set to reinvent the takeaway by launching the first Deliveroo-only brand.

The Sethi family’s JKS Restaurants group has teamed up with the meal-ordering app to launch Motu Indian Kitchen on 17 October.

Motu – derived from the Hindi term for ‘Fat Man’ – will offer ‘unashamedly’ indulgent Indian ‘Feast Boxes’ starting at £20, containing one classic curry, biryani or mixed grill and a selection of sides and condiments.

The restaurant will be based out of a Roobox, one of Deliveroo’s remote kitchens, in Battersea and will initially serve areas including Fulham, Clapham, Chelsea, Wandsworth and Putney.

Karam Sethi said: “The dishes Motu will offer are a nod to the much loved classic British Indian takeaway dishes, delivering the same quality of food you’d expect if you were dining in a restaurant.”

The made-for-delivery menu will feature traditional dishes such as chicken tikka masala alongside more unusual options like bonemarrow methi goat keema; and pork spare rib vindaloo.

Two weekend ‘feast’ specials will launch later this autumn – a slow roasted masala lamb leg; and a while tandoori chicken.

Roobox expansion

Motu marks the first unique signing for the Roobox concept after its launch in April.

The remote kitchens, designed to help restaurants expand without the costs of opening an additional site, have launched at a time when a growing number of London operators are being forced to close due to skyrocketing rents.

Dan Warne UK & IE managing director at Deliveroo, said, "Motu's launch creates the perfect Indian summer for Londoners, giving Deliveroo customers the opportunity to enjoy world class Indian food in their own homes.”

The Sethi family’s restaurant portfolio also includes Michelin-starred Trishna and Bib Gourmand-winning Hoppers.
