Michelin Guide 2017 to be announced at live event
The Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland 2017 new stars are to be announced at a live event for the first time since arriving in Britain in 1911.

Scheduled for 3 October, the announcement event will take place at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) at Savoy Place in London. The location has been chosen in homage to the Guide’s historic motoring background.

Michael Ellis, international director of the Michelin Guides, will announce the new stars.

Last year, The Guide appeared in September, and contained 15 new one stars, two new two stars, and no new three stars.

In a statement on the Michelin website, Ellis commented: “We’re very excited about this inaugural event and I’m very much looking forward to celebrating with so many talented people.

“The Michelin Guide was introduced in France in 1900 to let motorists know where they could find good food and accommodation, where the most scenic driving routes were and where to buy driving essentials like tyres."

Editor of the Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland Rebecca Burr said: “The last 10 years have seen the emergence of a host of different types of restaurant producing excellent food under the guidance of extremely talented young chefs.”

Michelin inspectors make anonymous visits and pay their own bills.

As well as the stars, the Guide also lists hundreds of Bib Gourmands – restaurants serving “exceptional good food at moderate prices” ‒ and named after Bibendum, the original name for the 1898-created mascot the Michelin Man.
