More chefs and menus revealed for The Elephant guest chef series

Chris Simpson and Mark Poynton have been announced as next up in Simon Hulstone's guest chef series at The Elephant, Torquay, while Adam Bennett has revealed his menu for 17 August.

The first chef to follow Bennett will be Chris Simpson, head chef at the two-Michelin starred Restaurant Nathan Outlaw in Cornwall's Port Isaac, on 18 October.

This will be followed by Mark Poynton, of Cambridge Michelin-starred restaurant Alimentum, on 22 November.

Simpson's dinner will take place on Tuesday 18 October, and aim to bring his style of rich yet simple food. Simpson, who moved to Outlaw's eponymous site after four years working at St Enodoc in nearby Rock, has also worked at Restaurant Martin Wishart in Edinburgh, and The Vineyard at Stockcross. He also trained for three years at Northcote Manor in Langho.

Poynton previously worked with Daniel Clifford at his two-Michelin starred Cambridge site Midsummer House, and also took part in Great British Menu.

Bennett, whose meal is set for 17 August, has also revealed his five-course menu.

It will include:

  • Smoked eel, roast cauliflower, capers, sultanas and sorrel
  • Chicken liver parfait, beetroot, blackcurrants, hibiscus
  • Crispy duck egg, white asparagus, English cured ham
  • Rump of Cornish Lamb, smoked leek, cockles, dashi potatoes, sea vegetables
  • Raspberry, lychee and rose

The events are the latest collaborations announced by Hulstone, whose guest chef series kicked off on 3 March with Allan Pickett of Piquet in London, and has also included Mark Sargeant.

in February, Hulstone commented: "I'm constantly looking for inspiration and ways to keep us on our toes at The Elephant. I've always liked the idea of having guest chef events...and this guest chef series will give diners the opportunity to sample the cooking of these fantastic chefs without leaving Torquay."
