Sudbury House GM’s Interesting Hotels Group acquires Ely hotel

The Interesting Hotels Group, from Sudbury House general manager Ulrike Le Roux, has acquired the Grade II listed Poet’s House hotel in Ely, Cambridgeshire.

The 21-bedroom property in St Mary Street is now the third property in the group’s portfolio.

Once the home of a local author, the venue originally consisted of three separate buildings but has been run as a unified hotel since 2013. It also has a restaurant and lounge bar, which the group has described as “relaxed” but “stylish”.

Le Roux, director of the group, is also general manager of the 49-bedroom Sudbury House in Oxfordshire and in 2014 presided over the renovation of the hotel and its three-AA Rosette Restaurant 56 under current executive chef Andrew Scott.

She said: "We are very excited to add the property to our group which has built its reputation on providing excellent accommodation and first class service in every hotel, together with offering high quality food. Ely is a very distinctive city and Poets House is a great addition to our collection of eclectic properties within the Interesting Hotels Group.”

The Interesting Hotels Group was founded in 2014 and consists of Sudbury House, the Relais & Chateaux property Llangoed Hall in Wales, and the Swan at Hay hotel in South Wales.
