Kricket to open in Soho in 2016

Kricket – the tiny Indian restaurant based in a Brixton shipping container – is to open its first bricks and mortar site later this year.

Chef Will Bowlby and his business partner Rik Campbell launched the 20-cover venue to critical acclaim at POP Brixton in 2015.

Now the duo are set to bring their modern Indian small plates and cocktails to a larger site at 12 Denham Street in Soho.

Only a year in to trading, Kricket has already become a firm favourite among celebrity chefs including Pierre Koffmann and Michel Roux Jr, who recently named Kricket as his favourite London restaurant on Bloomberg, stating 'places like this are the reason why London is the envy of Paris and New York'.

The new venture is backed by the White Rabbit Growth Fund, the hospitality investment vehicle founded by ex-Soho House commercial director Chris Miller.

Campbell told BigHospitality’s sister site MCA earlier this year that he could see Kricket expanding to an initial five sites across the capital in ‘hot spots’ such as East London, West London and Soho.

"We're saying four or five at the moment, but if we can keep the quality and the product is still good then maybe more," said Campbell.

Despite the restaurant's ambitious expansion plans, the original shipping container venue will remain open in Brixton for the foreseeable future.
