The 10 best hospitality companies to work for 2016

Red Carnation Hotels and Bourne Leisure Ltd – owner of Butlins – have topped the rankings of the best hospitality businesses to work for in 2016, according to employee engagement firm Best Companies.

Steakhouse brand Hawksmoor Group came sixth overall, followed by McDonald’s in eighth and Marriott Hotels International in ninth.

Best Companies has used its data to highlight the firms which finished highest in its various Sunday Times Best Companies lists.

The annual awards are based on a survey of staff at each company to determine levels of employee engagement. One-star is very good, two-stars are outstanding and three-stars are extraordinary.

Hawksmoor made the list after it was ranked 15th in the Best 100 Mid Companies with a three-star rating.

Entrants from The Best Big Companies list included McDonald’s (eighth with a two-star rating), Marriott Hotels International (ninth with a two-star rating) and Merlin Entertainments Group (14th with a one-star rating).

The Brooklands Hotel in Weybridge, Surrey lead the field in the Best Small Companies category and came fourth overall with a three-star rating.

Jonathan Austin, founder and chief executive of Best Companies, said: “These companies have recognised that sustainable business success can only be achieved with engaged employees.

“Any hospitality businesses that are proactively seeking to make their workplace better should look to these 10 organisations for best practice. They understand that a focus on employee engagement can help to attract and retain the best talent and, as a result, deliver stronger results in the long term.”
