The rapidly-expanding group will launch a £1.1m, 300-cover site in the newly developed £25m intu Eldon Square complex.
With a street-level bar and ‘extensive’ whisky and bourbon menu, the venue will host live music and feature the UK’s largest selection of Picklebacks.
It comes after Red’s secured a £9m investment deal in December to fund the launch of eight to ten more smokehouses over the next two years. The group is aiming to open 20 sites by 2020.
Scott Munro, co-founder of Red’s True Barbecue, said the brand was investing in training its ‘Pitmaster’ barbecue chefs in the face of increasing competition from other smokehouse restaurants.
“There is now certainly more competition to win customers’ hard earned cash,” he said.
“This year we’ve worked incredibly hard on our operations…investing heavily in our Pitmaster team to ensure we credibly remain the most authentic barbecue joint this side of the pond.
“Without a history of this job role in the UK, and a site pipeline that extends across the UK well into 2018, we’re shoring up our expertise, knowledge and skill-set for the future.”
Munro launched Red’s with co-founder James Douglas in Leeds in 2012. The group now runs six sites across the North of England and opened its first London restaurant in Shoreditch last year.
