Genji opens Sushi and Robata at Wholefoods Kensington
Japanese food company Genji has opened Sushi and Robata restaurant at the Whole Foods Market in London's Kensington.

The restaurant, located on the store's first floor, opened on Monday (27 June) following a refurbishment of the space.

Genji UK managing director Silla Bjerrum, who co-founded Feng Sushi, is overseeing the launch of the venue, which combines Japanese-style barbecue with sushi and has an emphasis on using sustainable and seasonal ingredients.

Chefs Tsvetan Gerganov and Masa Tanaka, formerly of Feng Sushi and Koya Frith Street respectively have created a menu divided into small plates, robata, raw sushi, dim sum and noodles, bento and desserts.

Dishes include Cruncy rice salmon tartare; Spicy miso lamb; Tuna tataki with ponzu dressing; Miso Atlantic cod; Spicy beef shumai; Duck and orange soba; Matcha cream puffs; Chocolate spring rolls with coffee dipping sauce; and Yuzu cheesecake. Small plates Bento boxes range from £12.50-£21.75.

A comprehensive drinks list comprises a large tea selection, craft beers, Japanese cocktails, sake and wine.

Bjerrum said: “I am thrilled to be heading up this new venture on behalf of Genji UK. Sourcing only the best natural, sustainable and seasonal ingredients is imperative for us, and my team here is determined to translate that into a huge success story in this prime west London site.”

Genji provides Japanese inspired food to Wholefoods Markets across London, Cheltenham and Glasgow. It also operates cafes at Wholefoods Cheltenham and London Piccadilly.
