Finances hold 59% Britons back from holidaying, says hotel poll

The majority of the 2,000 survey respondents (59 per cent) said a lack of available finance was the biggest factor stopping them taking time out, while a quarter of respondents said they prefer taking lots of short breaks throughout the year, rather than one long holiday.

Britons also said that they would need an average of six short breaks per year to feel fully rested, but actually only took three.

Asked to choose the UK region they would most like to visit, the most popular destination was the South West, followed by Scotland, and the North West of England.

In response to the results, Best Western Great Britain is offering 20 per cent of stays from 13 June to 4 September, at any of its 260-plus properties across the UK. Comprising the school holiday weeks, the offer applies to hotels in the countryside, city centres, between golf courses and spas, and near attractions such as historic castles.

Andrew Denton, director of communications from Best Western Great Britain, said: “We want to give everybody more reasons to take a break this summer with 20 per cent off.” The brand is asking visitors who would like to take advantage of the offer to sign up to loyalty scheme Best Western Rewards.

Denton added that the group would also be running competitions on social media, offering prizes of free stays at Best Western hotels.
