London's first gin hotel to open on Portobello Road

Portobello Road Gin has revealed plans to open a new venue where guests can literally eat, drink and sleep all things gin.

Designed to provide ‘a haven for gin buffs’, the multi-million pound Distillery will open on London’s Portobello Road in November.

The four storey ‘gin mecca’ will feature a gin museum, blending room, Spanish-style ‘Gintonic’ bar and restaurant, shop, and several boutique guest rooms.

It is the first London distillery that allows people to stay overnight.

Ged Feltham, co-founder of Portobello Road Gin, said: “Our roots have played an important factor in the success of the brand and it’s incredibly exciting to be able to grow and continue producing in Notting Hill.

“The Distillery will prove to be a mecca for all fans of the drink and will, we believe, become the finest address in gin.”

Visitors will also be able to take part in 'The Ginstitute' experience, which allows guests to take gin history classes and blend their own unique recipe.

Spirits boom

Gin is officially trendy, with sales set to hit £1bn in restaurants and pubs for the first time next year.

The rise has been driven by a surge in younger people taking to the spirit, with many crediting Daniel Craig's hard-drinking Bond as boosting its popularity with his new Vesper Martini (a mix of gin and vodka).

Portobello Road Gin – which is stocked in Waitrose and Selfridges – recently created London’s first asparagus gin dubbed The Director’s Cut.

The first production at the Distillery will be a special limited edition version of the mix, to be released in November.

All of Portobello Road Gin's products will now be manufactured at the hotel, before being sold in the UK, US, Spain and other countries.
