Porky's crowdfunding to become the 'biggest BBQ chain in the UK'

Memphis-style restaurant Porky’s is launching a crowdfunding campaign to become ‘the biggest barbecue chain in the UK’.

The husband and wife-run group is hoping to raise £650,000 in 30 days to open two new venues this year.

It forms part of a wider plan for Porky's to triple its current five-strong portfolio to 15 sites within three years, co-founder Simon Brigg told BigHospitality’s sister site MCA.

The London-based group is also planning to use the funds to buy a pig farm and a portable smoking van and create a range of sauces and clothing.

Porky’s is currently valued at £8m and turns over an average of £100k per week.

Brigg said: “In just three years we’ve become one of the fastest growing barbecue chains in the UK, with an avid army of porkers preaching the word of Memphis barbecue across London. Now we’re on the brink of something big.”

Its target locations for growth include ‘fringe areas’ of London, such as Guildford, Kingston and St Albans before taking the concept nationwide.

Brigg described Porky’s as an ‘exponentially growing’ business and said he and wife Joy were ‘overwhelmed’ by the response to the restaurants so far.

The campaign will launch on Crowdcube on 18 May and run until 16 June.
