Asian hotel operator Compass Hospitality has acquired its second hotel in the UK since receiving a funding boost from The Royal Bank of Scotland earlier this month.

The Victoria Hotel in Oldham, jointly acquired by Singapore-based Seacare and Compass Hospitality Group, will be the eighth hotel to join Compass Hospitality Group's UK portfolio.

The 67-bedroom hotel joins Hawkwell House in Oxford, acquired last week by the group, and the former Big Sleep Hotels in Cardiff, Cheltenham and Eastbourne, which were purchased last summer.

Harmil Singh, president and CEO at Compass Hospitality, said: "Within 12 months of our entry into the UK market in April 2015, we now have eight hotels under management in the UK.  The Victoria Hotel marks an important milestone and we intend to build on our market presence here."

Singh said Compass planned to market its latest acquisition as a business and leisure destination. The property, operated for several years by its previous owners, has newly-refurbished bedrooms and food and beverage spaces.

Compass Hospitality Group, which manages 40 hotels in Thailand and Malaysia, entered the UK in April last year after securing the management contracts for The Lion Hotel in Shrewsbury and The White Swan in Halifax. As well as the Big Sleep Hotels portfolio and Hawkwell House it also owns The Lace Market Hotel in Nottingham.

Singh said: “Looking forward, we really want to put Compass Hospitality on the European map as a Bangkok-based firm offering a full service of operational and online management and partnering owners in the acquisition, funding and development of UK hotel assets - with Royal Bank of Scotland on board we can achieve this.”
