Purecraft Bar opens in Nottingham with former Restaurant Sat Bains chef

A craft beer and food bar from a former Restaurant Sat Bains chef, a former chef restaurateur at the Cross in Kenilworth, and a former director at Mitchells & Butlers restaurant group, has opened in Nottingham.

Purecraft Bar & Kitchen, at the city’s 13 St Peter’s Gate, is the second opening for the Pure Craft company, which was founded in 2014 by Andreas Antona, the chef restaurateur behind Simpsons in Edgbaston and the Cross in Kenilworth; Martin Hilton, former director at Mitchells and Butlers; and Paul Halsey, co-founder of Warwickshire brewery Purity Brewing Co.

The Nottingham site has Andrew Smith as head chef, who brings 13 years of chef experience to the role including one year at Restaurant Sat Bains, also in Nottingham. He has sought to create a menu of dishes designed to pair with beer, including using beer as an ingredient.

Dishes include traditional beer snacks such as local pork pies and cheese sticks, as well as larger plates such as Bavette Steak with Beer Ketchup, ‘House Rubbed’ Rotisserie Chicken, and Drunken Eton Mess. The drinks menu offers a wide range of cask and craft beers, including varieties from Purity Brewing Co.

General manager is Richard Norton, who was in the same role at Ragdale Hall hotel in Leicestershire.

Co-founder Antona said: “Nottingham is a dynamic city with plenty going on in the food and drink scene. As a bar that’s as serious about food as we are about beer, we’re confident that we’re bringing something different to the area. We have a fantastic team in place that really understands what we’re about.”

The first venue for the company opened in Birmingham in 2014, and in 2015 won the Publican Morning Advertiser’s Best Beer Bar Award.
