Marriott launches hospitality training academy in Manchester

With 21,181 hotels in operation, and nearly 3000 in the pipeline, it is estimated that Greater Manchester will need an additional 20,400 staff to manage the industry’s expected growth up to 2020.

Now Marriott has teamed up with Renaissance Hotels and Antz to launch the Marriott Academy - which will give the unemployed and those unable to access training the chance to work in Manchester’s hospitality sector.

Twenty students are currently taking part in a three-week intensive training course, followed by a three-week work experience placement and guaranteed interview with Marriott.

Peter Nicholson, cluster director of human resources at Marriott and Renaissance Hotels in Manchester, said: “Working with Antz Junction, we really wanted to help support those with the right worth ethic and give them the opportunity to learn, and get experience, so that they can develop a career in the hospitality industry.”

The training is split between Worsley Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club, Renaissance Hotel Manchester and the Manchester Airport Marriott Hotel, with skills and employability training at Antz Junction Social Enterprise in Swinton.

Successful graduates from the Academy are expected to complete the course on 4 May where a select few will be offered a job with Marriott.
