Avocado-only restaurant opens in London

While there are already restaurants dedicated to cereal, grilled cheese, meatballs and chips, the humble avocado now has a whole pop-up restaurant opening in its honour.

For £55 guests at London’s first ‘Avo-Brunch Pop-Up' can enjoy a five-course tasting menu celebrating the famous green fruit.

Dishes include avocado gazpacho with watermelon and basil oil; followed by grilled harissa spiced chicken with avocado salsa, avocado raita and deep fried avocado in crisp quinoa.

On the dessert menu is avocado ice cream with almond praline; and avocado dark chocolate mousse with avocado macaron.

Guests will be welcomed with an avocado margarita on arrival and receive a ‘grow your own’ avocado kit to take home.

The venue is the brainchild of ‘pop-up Queen’ Meredith O’Shaughnessy, the creator of London’s Dirty Laundry and Nordic Yulefest events.

It is the latest in a slew of single item restaurants opening in London, joining Soho’s grilled cheese café Melt Room and Bonny Porters meatball restaurant Balls & Company.

According to research from Zomato, one in ten restaurants that opened in the capital between April and November last year focused on a single dish – double the number in 2014.

However, it seems the avocado eatery isn’t set to open permanently just yet.

The pop-up will be running on selected dates until June at Printworks Kitchen in Clerkenwell.
