Ex-Hedone chef launches crowdfunding campaign to open first restaurant

Ex-Hedone chef Lee Skeet has launched a crowdfunding campaign to open his first permanent restaurant.

The Skeet family are aiming to raise £50,000 to open a British seafood eaterie ‘just metres from the sea’ in Cornwall.

Lee – who has worked with Gordon Ramsay and Tom Aikens – left Hedone in 2014 and has since run a series of pop-up restaurants and residencies across London.

The Devon-raised chef wrote on the Crowdfunder page that he wanted his new venue to feature 'top level' cooking using the 'finest' local produce, while remaining accessible and affordable.

In a message shared on Twitter Skeet said: "After six years working in London I’ve decided it’s time to move back to the South West, so me, Emily and little Jackson are moving down to Cornwall in a few weeks.

"I really want to challenge myself and achieve something really special on my own and we’re trying really hard to fund our own little restaurant by the sea.”

The money will be used as working capital to get the restaurant off the ground and to invest in kitchen equipment.

The chef has set a maximum limit of £50,000 on the crowdfunding page, but said any amount raised would help ‘a great deal’ in getting the restaurant open.

Skeet is the latest chef to crowdsource funds to open a restaurant, following Gary Usher and Paul Foster's successful Kickstarter campaigns.
