Wine bar and shop The Humble Grape to open central London site
The second Humble Grape is set to open in the former Press House Wine Bar on St Bride's Passage, just off Fleet Street in May.
The 3,600 sq ft site, once a drinking den for journalists, will be turned into a 200 seat wine bar, shop, events space, private dining room and wine cellar stocking handcrafted wines from small, sustainable independent vineyards across the world. It will also feature a private dining room for 18.
As with the Battersea site, customers will be able to choose one of 30 wines available by the glass or carafe and from 200 bottled wines to drink in or take away.
Food will also be served with head chef Anna Allan devising wine-friendly ‘Humble Plates’ with dishes including Galician octopus with chargrilled leeks & triple cooked new potatoes; roast bone marrow with dipping soldiers and lamb ribollita stew.
Humble Grape, set up by James Dawson in 2009 as a wine importer, successfully launched its first wine bar and shop in Battersea with help from a crowdfunding campaign last year. Dawson said the first site had proved such as success he was now in a position to expand.
“I started Humble Grape in 2009 with a handful of wines that I’d discovered on my travels," he said. "I ran wine tastings for my friends and family and delivered cases on the back of my motorbike. Now we import over two-hundred wines, and have a loyal following. Many of my customers invested in our crowdfunding raise on Seedrs enabling me to launch the first Humble Grape wine bar and shop in Battersea, the mission being to make great quality wines accessible for all.
"The bar was so well received, we’re now in the position to bring the concept to Central London."
