Alfred Prasad joins Soho's Suvlaki as consultant chef
Prasad left his role as executive chef and director of cuisine at the Tamarind Collection restaurant group in 2015 after 13 years.
The chef announced this week that he had joined Suvlaki to ‘bring an elevation’ to the food offering and develop some ‘exciting new dishes’ ahead of the new menu launch in Spring.
The Athenian grill restaurant was launched by Greek TV chef Elias Mamalakis in July 2015 and serves a high-end version of Greek street food.
“I visited Greece for the first time last year and really took to the cuisine - the simplicity of cooking combined with the purity of produce,” said Prasad.
“I am really excited with the opportunity to translate that inspiration to creative expression at Suvlaki. To do this alongside, a Greek food legend Elias Mamalakis, makes it even more special.”
Born in Wardha in central India, Prasad joined Tamarind of Mayfair as a sous chef in 2001 and was promoted to executive chef within a year.
In 2002 he became the youngest Indian chef in the world to receive a Michelin Star at 29 years old.
As director of cuisine and executive chef of Tamarind Collection between 2012 and 2015 Prasad drove the creative direction of both Tamarind of Mayfair and Zaika of Kensington.
