Thai Leisure Group to open flagship Chaophraya restaurant in £25m Newcastle development

Two new restaurant chains have signed up to the £25m intu Eldon Square restaurant quarter in Newcastle.

Chaophraya, the premium Thai restaurant, owned by Thai Leisure Group (TLG) has taken a 20-year lease on the 5,500 sq ft roof terrace for a flagship site.

Ask, the Azzuri Group owned Italian restaurant chain, has agreed a 25-year lease on a 4,000 sq ft site on the lower level of Grey’s Quarter.

The new development has 80,000 sq. ft. of retail space and will include 20 new restaurants. TGI Fridays; Tapas Revolution; Ed’s Easy Diner; Frankie & Benny’s; Chiquito; Bella Italia; Handmade Burger; The Alchemist and Giraffe are among the new operators who have already signed leases.

Kate Grant, regional director of intu, said: “There is a huge amount of excitement amongst restaurateurs, who are all looking to be a part of this amazing development at intu Eldon Square.

“It is great to welcome Chaophraya and ASK Italian to intu Eldon Square and we look forward to announcing further additions to our line up soon.”

The restaurant's are the latest additions to the booming North East food industry, with the region outpacing London for new pub and restaurant openings over the past five years.

TLG will also launch Thaikhun in Newcastle in March as part a major expansion plan for the group after it recorded a 'bumper' £30m turnover in 2015.
