Europe's largest Hampton by Hilton hotel opening at Stansted Airport
Hilton Worldwide has awarded developer McAleer & Rushe a £26m contract to design and build the largest Hampton by Hilton hotel in Europe at Stansted airport.

The company will work with fellow developers Urban & Civic to construct a £45m 357-bed hotel on a two acre site acquired from Manchester Airports Group (MAG) – the owners of Stansted Airport.

Construction on the eight-storey hotel will begin by the end of the year with the site set to open in summer 2017.

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president of development at Hilton Worldwide, said the hotel was designed to allow guests to access the terminal without a shuttle bus.

“This strategy has proven successful for our hotels in a number of locations, including properties at airports in Gatwick, Exeter and Liverpool, and is integral to our developments in Bristol airport and here in Stansted,” he said.

“With more scheduled European destinations than any other UK airport, Stansted is an ideal location at which to develop our economy brand.”

The hotel will become the largest Hampton by Hilton in Europe, surpassing Hampton by Hilton Warsaw City Centre which opened in 2014.

It forms part of MAG’s £260m investment plan to attract more passengers, airlines and long-haul services to Stansted.

Hampton by Hilton has 16 hotels in the UK and Ireland, with a further 17 in development.

McAleer & Rushe previously built the Hampton by Hilton hotels at Gatwick airport, London Waterloo and in Bournemouth.
