Smashburger confirms Milton Keynes opening

Smashburger has confirmed plans to open one of its first UK restaurants in Milton Keynes.

The site, which will open under franchise in May, is part of plans to open 35 Smashburger restaurants in the UK over the next few years.

Tim Lowther, managing director of the Smashburger UK franchise, said Milton Keynes is one of three sites the 'better burger' brand was already planning to open in the UK.

"Britain’s love affair with the burger is deepening by the day and nowhere more so than Milton Keynes," he said. "With its fast-growing population we’ve identified a growing opportunity to educate and influence locals on the next generation of better burgers."

Smashburger, which operates more than 310 corporate and franchise restaurants in 34 American states and seven international countries, signed a partnership with AL Ventures Ltd, part of the MSG Group last year to launch in the UK.

"Opening the doors of the first UK restaurant in one of the fastest growing urban regions in Europe is a great moment for the Smashburger brand. Our experienced franchise owner brings extensive local UK restaurant insights and gold standard operational excellence that will help to ensure Smashburger’s success in this new market,” said Scott Crane, president & CEO of Smashburger.

Smashburger, whose name derives from the 'smashing' process used to cook burgers, is renowned for its innovative burger combinations and creates a localised burger for each region it operates in. The menu also includes crispy chicken sandwiches, salads, rosemary and garlic-seasoned Smashfries, Haystack Onions and Veggie Frites - flash-fried and seasoned carrot sticks and green beans. Restaurants also feature a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine which allows more than 100 different drinks options.
