InterContinental Hotels Group has revealed the first of its Holiday Inn Express hotels to feature its technology and design-led 'Next Generation' rooms and innovations.

IHG said it had created Holiday Inn's Next Generation guest experience to 'meet the changing needs' of the modern-day traveller.

Next Generation rooms feature Smart TVs allowing guests to stream their own media from a personal device or log in to apps using free Wi-Fi, beds with higher padded noise-reducing headboards providing support to guests who are working or watching TV in bed and flexible work/rest areas instead of a traditional desk.

The new hotels will also have redesigned lobby and dining areas to better cater for busy travellers. The brand's new Express Café & Bar has been designed to give quickly prepared food on the go and express breakfasts will be available to have on-site or as a takeaway. Guests will also be able to choose their own room and view it's location in relation to amenities on tablet computers.

Mike Greenup, vice president, brand management, Holiday Inn Brand Family, Europe, IHG, said: “A hotel room is no longer just a place to sleep and our approach to technology and service starts with understanding our guests and their needs throughout their booking experience and stay. This investment in guest insight and our hotels is enabling us to stay ahead of the game.”

IHG said it planned for at least one in every four of the brand's European properties to feature Next Generation innovations over the next three years. The first UK properties to feature Next Generation rooms and innovations are Holiday Inn Express's at Park Royal, Ealing, Grimsby and Portsmouth.
