The Peninsula London: Planning permission granted

Joint venture developers, Grosvenor Britain & Ireland (Grosvenor) and The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels ltd. (HSH), have been granted planning permission to build The Peninsula London hotel on London’s Hyde Park Corner in central London.

Westminster City Council has green-lit plans for the 190-room hotel to be constructed at 1-5 Grosvenor Place, Belgravia after plans were submitted in July.

The new hotel will replace the existing 1950s and 1960s offices and will be designed by Hopkins Architects. It will include a spa, shops, bars, restaurants and a ballroom, with construction to begin in summer 2017 and completed in 2021.

Peter Vernon, chief executive officer at Grosvenor, described the approval as an ‘excellent’ opportunity to shape that part of London.

The Peninsula London is an example of the long-term thinking and high-quality design required to maintain London’s status as a global city. The scheme will support thousands of jobs and brings tens of millions of pounds to the West End economy,” he said.

“The Peninsula London also provides a chance to improve the surrounding realm by widening pavements, planting more trees and providing easier road crossings. It is a major milestone in our efforts to improve Belgravia as a place to visit, live and work.”
