Third Steak of the Art restaurant to open

Steak of the Art, the steak restaurant and art gallery concept is opening its third site in Southampton next year.

Owner Steve Bowen, a former city worker-turned chef, has secured the lease on a 4,000 sq ft site in Admirals Quay, Ocean Village, with plans to launch it as Steak of the Art Southampton in February 2016.

The latest site, which will hold 170-covers across two floors, follows Steak of the Art's in Bristol, which opened in 2013 and Cardiff, which opened earlier this year.

Bowen said: “We’re very pleased to have signed the lease and hugely excited about bringing our vision of dining to Southampton.

“We feel that Ocean Village is the ideal place for us. Recent upgrades to the marina, work on the new five-star hotel and a home for other, well-respected retailers, bars and restaurants will see it emerge as a key business and tourist destination.

“The need to have quality places to eat therefore increases and Steak of the Art will provide a place where people can appreciate and enjoy good food in an unpretentious way."

As with Steak of the Art Bristol and Cardiff, meat and fish will be sourced from suppliers in Cornwall - butchers Philip Warren and fishmongers Fish for Thought.

Art displayed on site will be from a both local and published artists from the business's partner, Knutsford-based gallery Vermillion.

“The interior of the restaurant will be an exhibition of art in itself and we’ve got some very exciting and perhaps unusual ideas for Southampton which will make this a dining experience with a difference." added Steak of the Art art co-ordinator Hannah-Jayne Smith.
